  • Church Motto

    First......that all may know Jesus.

This is the motto of First Baptist Dayton, TN

    taken from 1 Timothy 2:3-5.

"For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,"

  • From the Pastor

One of the highlights of my ministry each year is the privilege of representing our church as a messenger at the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention. Thank you for allowing me that opportunity again this year. I have attended every annual meeting since 1982, except in 1989 when our family moved to Dayton during that week – Judy would not let me be away for that one! I gave a brief report to the church on Sunday evening, June 25, but I want to highlight some of the events from this year’s meeting. The media seemed to focus as usual on the resolutions that are presented and debated. After some debate and procedural work by the Resolutions Committee, the convention messengers passed a resolution condemning racism and ethnic hatred of the Alt-Right White Supremacy group and all others like them. The major thrust of the convention is about missions and evangelism around the world. The International Mission Board commissioning service sending nearly two dozen missionaries all over the world was one the highlights this year. The crossover events led to over 3,500 people giving themselves to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior! The SBC emphasis this next year is on Soul Winning which I believe is the right direction for us. I am glad to be a part of the Southern Baptist Convention and am willing to do my part in leading our church to cooperate with brothers and sister in Christ to reach this world for the glory of God. Jesus is coming soon and we need to be about our Father’s business!
